22 kite brands to like on Facebook
Have you found your favourite kite brand on Facebook yet? If not, here is a list of all kite brands that I found, ordered by the amount of fans or likes they have right now (25.6.2012). Almost all kitebrands and manufacturers that I could think of has a Facebook page, that is good. Not all of them updates it regulary. Neither does all of them actively gather fans on Facebook.
Does it surprise you that BenWilsonSurf is first? It did surprise me, it is a for me quite unknown brand, I have never really seen any kites of that brand. Or that Switch kites, the quite new and young brand, has the second most likes? They are one of the few that activelly tries to get more fans. Personally I thought that Slingshot or Flexifuel with all their stars that have been rocking the kitescene for many years would have been in top, but nope. Anyway, here is the full list, just click on thtem for getting to their page and be able to like them.

Some thoughts from the statistics of kitebrands on Facebook:
None of them has a lot of fans. The biggest one has just a little over 20000. It would be quite easy for any of the other brands to grow their visibility A LOT on Facebook. Because on Facebook there are a lot of kitesurfers. For example, check the Kite Worldwide Facebook page. That one has 71 911 fans! So there are a lot of kitesurfers still that has not liked any kitebrand on Facebook.
More facts about kitebrands on Facebook:
Average amount of fans is 5666.

Interesting post!
Thanks! Glad to see that someone else than me is interested in numbers and statistics in social media and kitesurfing as well..:)
Very interesting article and I never thought of it this way. Would you mind me quoting some of your numbers in a reciprocal blog post?
I have never actually seen any switch kites on the water in Australia or anywhere I have kited actually. What is their FB marketing strategy?
Thanks! Yes, you can quote everything you want, no problem.:)
I have not seen any Switch kites anywhere either.
I think their strategy is to sell kites directly to end users only through their webshop and not have any resellers. And I think that their marketing strategy is to give away a lot of teamrider contracts and only focus on cheap but good channels for marketing (like Facebook). In that way they probably can keep their costs down and be profiteable even if they do not sell a lot of kites (yet).
But that is just my thoughts (as a marketer by profession, but anyway)
I do not know about their Facebook strategy either, but it seems like they have had some canvas-pages where you can win something if you like them. And probably then they have bought Facebook ads to those pages for getting fans and participants. Or I am almost sure that they have bought quite a lot of Facebook ads, it is nearly impossible for a brand to get Facebook fans without buing ads nowdays. //Jonathan
Yeh, i interesting what they have done though. Thanks for the insight.
